Dr Carlton Oler biography

Speaker:  Dr. Carlton Oler, Gavilan College

BIO:  Dr. Carlton Oler was raised in San Francisco, CA, and has 34 years of clinical and teaching experience in the field of psychology in many parts of the United States. He is currently a Professor of Psychology at Gavilan College in Gilroy, California.

Dr. Oler is a Licensed Psychologist, Health Service Psychologist, Master Addictions Counselor, and Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor. He has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, and completed a fellowship in Substance Abuse Treatment and Outpatient Psychotherapy in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine, and a residency in  Child, Family and Adult Psychotherapy, and Behavioral Medicine in the Psychiatry Department at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland, CA. Dr. Oler is a former Associate Professor of Psychology at Oakwood University where he was voted by psychology majors as “Instructor of the Year,” “Most Inspirational Teacher,” “Most Interesting Class,” and “Most Christ-like.” He has also published articles in journals such as Psychotherapy, Social Work, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Oler has also taken coursework in the Master of Divinity Program at Andrews University Theological Seminary and served as an Associate Pastor. He has preached and conducted or co-conducted 100s of mental health and relationship seminars in multiple cities around the United States; in Toronto, Ontario; and in Guyana, South America. Dr. Oler is author of the book “Coping with Stress for Academic Success: 24 Strategies to Get the Most Out of Your Educational Experience” available at the ABC and Amazon.

Dr. Oler enjoys time with his family, 5K racing, playing Scrabble, and keeping up with the latest holistic health advances. He is a very strong believer that your health is your wealth, and strives to practice a lifestyle in harmony with maintaining maximum overall health.
