The Price for Freedom

Dear Members in Christ,

Today is Memorial Day, we are thankful for our heroes and veterans who gave their lives for us. We are also thankful to God that we live in a country where we are free to worship.

Today as you picnic and enjoy family time, remember that for the freedoms you have someone gave their life so you can have it. Yes we are free because someone died for us. Jesus gave His life so that you can be free from the burdens and bondage of sin. Today as you celebrate remember JESUS.

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  ~  Romans 5:8

Neither Do I Condemn You

Dear
Members in Christ,

“Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”  ~  John 3:3

We go to church every Sabbath and worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. How do you feel toward your brothers and sisters in Christ? Do you love them as Christ loves you? I have to ask myself these questions every day and sometimes the answer is no. I can be honest because God knows our answers to these questions. Today be honest and do what I do, ask God to change and cleanse you. I desire a Spirit baptism. May God continue to work with you as He is working on me.

God is Fair

Dear
Members in Christ,

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  ~  I John 1:9

This morning I was listening to a flock of birds as they were singing. It was so beautiful and enlightening that I began thinking of God’s faithfulness. Everyday God provides food and shelter for the birds and they praise Him for He is good. He loves all of His creations, but human beings are the supreme objects of His love and affections. For me it means that I can go to God with all my problems and be confident that He will help resolve them. Do you need God’s help in fixing a problem? God is happy to help you today.

Our biggest problem is sin and God knows how to help us. He has been helping human beings with their sin problem from the beginning. When Adam and Eve sinned He covered their nakedness and promised Jesus, our Redeemer. God made murders and terrorists saints because they were willing to allow Him to deal with their sin problem. God is waiting for us to come to Him today. He is faithful and just, He will not turn us away. Don’t wait, run to Him in prayer.

Speak With Love

Dear Members in Christ,

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”  ~  Proverbs 15:1

Today as you encounter the many difficulties and difficult people that may come your way, remember to smile and speak with the love of Jesus in your heart. Several years ago a friend was riding on the train and the man next to him spilled his coffee on my friend. My friend’s first reaction was to speak harshly to the man, but then he remember Jesus and with a smile he forgave the man for his clumsiness and was very gentle with him. Later that day he had an interview and when he walked into office the man who spilled coffee on him was the interviewer. Without asking a question the man said to my friend, "You are hired.” The man went on to explain that my friend’s graciousness and loving manner is was he was looking for. Be nice and kind to all you come in contact with every day.

Preferring One Another

Dear Members in Christ,

We live in a very sad time as Christians. I was listening to a story about two church members who were fighting over what color the carpet in church should be. Each got members on their side and before long the church was split over the color of carpet. This is very sad because there are people in church we like and there are those we do not like simply because of personality. We have forgotten that we were all created differently and we are all from varied backgrounds and walks of life. We were made in God’s image and likeness regardless how we act or behave. It is up to you to behave like Jesus not the other person. If we all show unselfish love and kindness this world will be a better place and the church of Jesus Christ will experience its greatest success in soul-winning. Today, show love and kindness to those who are very difficult.

“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.”  ~  Romans 12:10

Put People First

Dear Members in Christ,

I was sharing with someone my thoughts on the book of Jonah. In the story God reveals His grace to all including the animals in the city of Nineveh. God’s love and grace is demonstrated in the book of Jonah. We are the children of God and like God we too should demonstrate love and grace to all. In the last chapter of the book of Jonah, Jonah is more concerned about a plant than he is about the people in Nineveh. Do you love things more than people? Are you more concerned about procedures and programs than people? Is a building more important than people? The above mentioned are important but in the book of Jonah, God’s message is that we must always put people first. You may consider what you do in church to be very important but stop and think for a moment, who are you doing it for? So whatever you do, always put people first.

Then the Lord said, “You feel sorry about the plants, though you did nothing to put it there. But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?”  ~  Jonah 4:10-11

Take Responsibility

Dear Members in Christ,

“It was the woman You gave me who gave me the fruit and I ate it.”  ~  Genesis 3:12

When God confronted Adam in the Garden of Eden, Adam immediately blamed God: “The wife that You game me brought me some of the fruit.” Eve did exactly the same: “No it wasn’t me, Lord; the serpent deceived me.”

We have the same inborn tendency - to blame other people and not take responsibility for our mistakes. Failure comes when we blame others rather than taking responsibility. Friends, when we blame others for our mistakes it causes a breach in our relationship with God and others that is very difficult to fix. Stop blaming others for things you did and step up and admit your mistakes. You are a better Christian by admitting your flaws. God wants to help today seek Him with all your heart.

Happy Sabbath!

Safe In His Arms

Dear Members in Christ,

“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”  ~  Jeremiah 31:3

I was thinking about the tragedy of EgyptAir flight 804 and the passengers on board. It’s sad that so many lives were lost. My prayer is with the families who lost loved ones. I pray that the passengers had a relationship with Jesus. I hope that in their own way God was special to them. We never know what day or hour is our last on this planet, for this reason we need to have a close relationship with Jesus. Remember He loves you; it is easy to be in love with someone who loves you. May God bless you today!

Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Dear Members in Christ,

“But when he saw that the waves were boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hands and caught him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”  ~  Matthew 14:30, 31

There are many things that cause us to doubt and loose faith in Jesus. Like Peter, too often we focus on criticism and problems and begin to sink spiritually. We need to remember just like Jesus was with Peter, He is also with us and we must stay focused on Him and not allow things or people to distract us in our walk with Jesus. Today! keep your eyes on Jesus and hold His hands tightly, if necessary cling on to Him. Whatever you do, stay close to Jesus today and always.

A Protective Father

Dear Members in Christ,

“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.”  ~  II Peter 3:14

This verse reminds me of the sacrifices presented to God in the Old Testament. The offering presented must be without spot or blemish. We are God’s living sacrifice and we must be without spot and blemish. This comes by prayer and fasting. We need to give up our old ways of backbiting and elevating self. God is calling His children to be humble, be pure in thoughts and live peaceably with all. May God bless you today as you strive to do His will and live the life He has called us to live. Jesus is coming soon. Be ready and stay ready.

Do Not Be Distracted

Dear Members in Christ,

Driving on the I-5, the car in front of me almost ran into a tractor-trailer. When I passed the car in front of me I realized the driver was texting. In our Christian walk we allow ourselves to be distracted by different things. What is distracting you in your walk with Jesus? Please do a self-evaluation and ask Jesus to help you get rid of whatever it is.

A Protective Father

Dear Members in Christ,

Yesterday I was attacked by two crows looking for their young. The kids at church removed them and place them in a box in the park. The baby birds were calling to their parents who were above flying and watching. The parents were making lots of noise when anyone got close to where the babies were. I was trying to help by releasing the chicks from the box, but as I got close to the box the parents began making noise and dive bombing. This reminded me of Jesus who is always watching and in protective mode. God is a great parent and we are fortunate to be His children. May God bless you today.

God is Near

Dear Members in Christ,

“Lord why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble.”  ~  Psalm 10:1

There are times in our lives we try to avoid God because we know what we are doing God will not approve. Sometimes we want to be so close to God, but feel He is avoiding us. Today talk to Jesus and let Him know you want to be in His presence. Let Him know you are willing to accept His silence, but you never want to experience the fear that He is not near. May God bless you today.

Growth in Christ

Dear Members in Christ,

We are living in confusing times. As a Christian, I often wonder if all Christians read the Bible. We are at point where the Word of God is being watered down to suit everyone’s preference and beliefs. I met a man recently and he was looking for people who believed in the Bible, I told him I was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian and again he asked if I believed in the Bible. I told him about our beliefs and he was impressed that there are Christians who still believe in the teachings of the Bible. Today is a very special day (Sabbath) and we should be happy that we are following Bible.

“But there were false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who brought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.”  ~   II Peter 2:1

Growth in Christ

Dear Members in Christ,

I’m on a fast from fatty foods. I did not realize how hard it is, until I had a craving for macaroni and cheese. I had to control my thoughts and desires for macaroni and cheese through the power of Jesus Christ. I had to pray and ask God for help to overcome my desires. What are you struggling with today? Jesus is able to give you the victory.

"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.”  ~  II Peter 1:2, 3

Dear Members in Christ,

It felt good getting up early this morning to spend time with Jesus. I hope that you have been enjoying your time with the Lord. Today is a beautiful! The air and everything around smells and feels wonderful. Enjoy a walk in nature today and talk to God. I always feel close to Him when I’m surrounded by nature. As you walk, share your hurts and anxieties with your friend, Jesus. Jesus really loves you!

Jesus is With You in the Fire

Dear Members in Christ,

Today I was thinking of the “Three Hebrew Boys” and the trials they faced for their faith. Have you noticed God did not get rid of the fiery furnace, but rather chose to save them in the fiery furnace? Jesus showed up in the fire and walked with the Hebrew boys. God does not take the fire of trials away from us, but instead He goes through the trials with us. I don’t know what you are facing today, but God is with you and He will take care of all your needs. I hope you are enjoying your 30 days of getting up early and spending an hour with God in pray and the Word. God bless and have a great day.

“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.”  ~  1 Peter 4:12, 13

God Has Big Eyes and Ears

Dear Members in Christ,

This morning I woke up feeling a bit tired, but I had my time with Jesus and it was wonderful. To wake up early each morning and spend time with God in prayer and the study of the Word is fantastic. I pray that you are waking up and spending time with God in prayer and the study of scripture, this will change and transform your life. Today my mind is troubled because of an issue I’m dealing with. The Holy Spirit reminded me of what I read this morning and that is ‘God’s eyes are on the righteous and His ears are open to their prayers’. I want to remind you of this fact as I am reminded.

Whatever problems you are facing God will solve them soon. God has big ears. He hears everything. He has big eyes. He sees all. Trust Him and He will take care of you. God will stand by you when you are alone.

The Cornerstone

Dear Members in Christ,

This morning when I woke up for my devotion and prayer time I read I Peter 2 which spoke of Jesus as the cornerstone. For the next 30 day we are getting up an hour earlier for a special time with Jesus in prayer and study of the Word. I feel so refreshed and positive today that I was tested. This morning I was bombarded by the enemy and it had little to no effect on me.

I pray that you enjoy your special time with Jesus today. He will revive and refresh your soul. When the enemy comes at you in whatever form to embarrass you, God will preserve you.

“...Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”  ~  I Peter 2:6

Press Forward

Dear Members in Christ,

Good Morning and Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers and women. Yesterday it was a bit scanty in church, but we had an amazing time Praying and Fasting. We had youths, adults, disabled and I must congratulate our children who stayed while we prayed and fasted. Their behavior was noteworthy in that they did not interrupt the program and we did not have to rescue them from any issues. I am proud of each one. Thank you parents for being responsible and supportive of this very spiritual event! All of Heaven is rejoicing over you!

God spoke to us during our fast and we want to share with you what He revealed to us. As a church each member needs to spend more time in prayer and the study of Scripture. We are anxiously awaiting the outpouring of the Latter Rain which requires that we have a close connection with God. I am asking each member to wake up one (1) hour early each day and spend that time in prayer and the study of God’s Holy Word. Spend the last 5 minutes in silence listening to the voice of God. Let’s join hearts and hands together in this special time for the next 30 days. You will be blessed and transformed. Let’s do this together!

Sabbath Celebration

Dear Members in Christ,

This Sabbath is “Prayer and Fasting”.  I want to take this opportunity to invite everyone to participate in the prayer time throughout the day.  A wonderful worship service has been planned and we will be having special appreciation for all our women and mothers.  This prayer and fasting is very important for our church. We need to come together and pray.  There are lots of difficult issues that we are facing as a church. In the past “Prayer and Fasting” consists of a handful, I am praying that if you cannot fast you will spend the day in prayer with us.  Hot tea and juices will be available in the committee room.  Please plan and encourage others to participate in this very important prayer time.

Access to God

Dear Members in Christ,

“Having access is very important in our society. Politicians charge up to $5,000 for a plate of dinner to raise money for their political campaign. Their dinner parties are usually sold out because people will pay that amount of money simply to gain access. Christians often do political things to gain access with church leaders. This is very selfish because those who cannot pay for access or those who are not political won’t have access, but thank God He is available to all. We do not have to pay or make any political moves with God. Everyone has equal access to God because of Jesus.

In His Presence

Dear Members in Christ,

“As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for you, the living God. When can I go and worship in your presence.”  ~  Psalm 42:1, 2

I always felt safe in the presence of those I love. I miss Angela when she goes to the store and stays too long. I am always happy when she is near me. It feels lonely when she is not around. The same is true with God. In His presence there is safety and joy. As Christians our desire should be to be in God’s presence. The happiest place to be is in church for when we gather in God’s name He is in the midst to bless.

There is an old song in the church hymnal that says, “There is a place of quiet rest near to the heart of God, a place where all is joy and peace near to the heart of God." Please find that place today! God’s blessings be upon you!

Press Forward in Faith

Dear Members in Christ,

There are times that I look back to the past. I see mistakes that could have been avoided and opportunities missed. I often ask myself how my life would have been different if I had avoided mistakes that I made and took opportunities that presented themselves to me. We all do this at times. We revisit our past. Paul encourages us to look towards the bright future God has in store for us. Today I pray that whatever you’re doing and wherever you are that you would not allow your life to be held captive by your past. Bless God for what He has brought you through and thank Him for how He will lead you in the future.

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”  ~  Philippians 3:13, 14

Peace Be Still

Dear Members in Christ,

“And He awoke and rebuked the winds and said to the sea, ‘Peace be still’.” And the winds cease and there was a great calm.

I am dealing with some turmoil right now and the Holy Spirit has led me to the story of Jesus in the storm. What I would like to share with you today is that Jesus was in the storm with the disciples. Whatever you are experiencing right now Jesus is with you. The most encouraging part of the story is that Jesus spoke to the storm and the winds and wave obeyed His voice.

Today in your storm Jesus’ words are “peace be still.” The Bible said that after Jesus rebuked the storm there was a calm. Jesus is about to calm your storm. Trust Him and He will lead and direct in your life.

Dear Members in Christ,

“Those who love Me, I will deliver, I will protect those who know My name. When they call to Me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.”  ~  Psalm 91:14-16

Today God wants you to know you are His child. He invites you to enter into a loving relationship with Him. God demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son, Jesus, to die in our place. God loves you and He wants you to be loyal to Him by surrendering your time and devotion to Him today.

The greatest joy you will experience in your life is knowing that whatever situation you’re facing God is with you and He will take care of you. Be joyful today because your Heavenly Father is with you. He will take care of all you needs. He is only a prayer away! Call Him today and talk to Him, let Him know that you love Him.

God has reminded and is reminding me daily that safety is in Him. You can be assured today that your friend Jesus will take care of you. A Place of Refuge and Hope

Dear Members,

The 30 day fast is over, but our work has just begun. This morning I went to visit a young man at Stanford hospital. We talked about church and what the church is and is not. For many church should be a perfect place where everyone exemplifies Jesus Christ. Unfortunately or fortunately, church is a hospital for sin-sick souls. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the attending physicians and the Angels of God come from time to time to help us with therapy. I think God’s church is a great place as long as we do not make it a mortuary. I enjoy church because when we go to church God’s presence is there as he promised us in His word that He will be with us when we gather in His name.

Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” As you pray today, please pray for the sick and shut-in members and family and friends who are lost. Our hearts should be burdened for those who do not have a close relationship with Jesus.  Please pray and join us for a day of fasting on Sabbath May 7, 2016.

“…And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”  ~  Isaiah 56:7.
